Evening celebration of music

ON Thursday 24 February, as part of the Dalriada Festival, Ballymoney Borough Arts Committee are delighted to welcome renowned traditional singer Len Graham back to Ballymoney to present an evening celebrating the music of his life-time friend Joe Holmes.

Joe Holmes from Killyrammer, was born in 1906 and died in 1978. In his recently published book about Joe, “Here I am Amongst You”, Len writes; “Joe’s ability to recall numerous poems, songs, tunes and stories from memory, never failed to amaze me. His extensive repertory covered a whole gamut of themes and human experience in wide ranging song types including early classical ballads, broadside ballads, local songs, come-all-ye’s, lyric folk songs, music hall pieces, songs on politics, murder, love, emigration and so on. He was a fine fiddler too”.

Len will be joined on stage by friends of Joe Holmes and Rasharkin Comhaltas in an evening of stories, music and songs. The performance begins at 8pm in Ballymoney Town Hall. Tickets £8, concessions £6 are available from the Tourist Information Centre at the Town Hall on 028 2766 0230.
