Expert advice on how to access your historic ancestral records

The January meeting of the Ballymena Branch of the North of Ireland Family History Society will be a talk given by Mr Alistair Butler, from The General Register Office in Ballymena.

This informative talk is being held on Thursday, January 30 at 7.15pm in The Braid Arts Centre, 1-29 Bridge Street, Ballymena.

The General Register Office (GRONI) holds historic records for Northern Ireland from 1845 and these were only available to anyone doing Family Research by going to the office in Belfast.

This could be a time consuming exercise spending a few hours with perhaps no results.

GRONI has now developed a service where the public can search, select and purchase Genealogy records online.

This service will be available worldwide and will enable users to search the records at any time convenient to them.

The website had originally been planned to give in November 2013 but has been rescheduled for early 2014.

The records which will be available initially will be: Marriages 1845-1938. Births 1864-1913. Deaths 1864-1963.

This will be an excellent talk as Alistair will be demonstrating the layout of the website, how to create an account, the fee structure and how to do a search.

Most importantly for all researchers, the date the service will go live.

Entrance fee is £1/ £3 members/non-members.
