FAME set for town hall

FAME will be taking Lurgan Town Hall by storm in May.

Centrestage Performing Arts in association with the Links Project will be giving the classic dance production a modern twist.

For this production FAME will stand for Fight Against the Mephedrone Explosion as the young people aim to highlight the legal high that is blighting our society.

Director Thomas Larkham explained: “In the original story from the ‘80s Carmen dies of a cocaine overdose but we’ve changed it to mephedrone to bring the play up to date.

“We’re hoping to create more awareness of the dangers of mephedrone and other drugs. During the performances people from different organisations will be on hand to talk to young people about the dangers of drugs.”

In FAME: The Musical, which is in the town hall from May 5 to 7, Seany Roberts plays the lead Tyrone while Nicole McKeown and Rebecca Wylie play the leading lady Carmen. Andrea Larkham is the choreographer and Jonathan McGuinness is musical director.

Thomas said: “Approximately 50 young people are taking part. We’ve been rehearsing since January. We were rehearsing from 10am to 10pm over Easter.

“Conleth Kane called in last Tuesday and put the cast through a West End style audition. The guys loved him. There were plenty of aching arms and legs after the hour and a half workshop.

“With Conleth being in the Fame auditions on RTE it was very appropriate for him to come along.”

The money raised from the four performance will fund the group’s Christmas project - Beauty and The Beast.

Tickets, 6, are available by calling the box office on 3834 2825 or texting FAME plus your name to 0754 1441 033.
