Film of the week - Captain America

in association with Omniplex Antrim“GIVE me a chance” begs little Steve Rogers to the recruitment officer who is sceptical of the five foot nothing’s ability to go to war

But it could also be the character pleading with the audience to give him the same box office attention that his fellow Avengers have earned.

Captain America is the last of the Marvel films before the big one next year, the Avengers- the one comic book nerds have been waiting for.

Before that superhero A Team is assembled there is the simple task of introducing the world to Marvel’s most Iconic hero, (well depending what side of the Atlantic you are on).

Steve Rogers is a small puny patriot, desperate to give his all for his country during the Second World War, but keeps getting turned down due to his small stature and asthma.

After signing up for a secret experiment, Rogers is transformed into the huge star spangled action hero.

After a brief stint on a propaganda show, ol’ Cap goes about tackling a group of dastardly Nazis who for some reason are chasing evil superstitious powers across war torn Europe.

I was glad I gave Captain America a chance and joined the first Avenger on his big screen adventure.

The characters are warm, heroic and funny, Chris Evans’ charm unmasks the ridiculous costume, while Hayley Atwell smoulders as the English agent gunning for his affections.

The supporting characters add depth to this film and gives the outlandish story substance.

Hugo Weaving clearly enjoys playing the evil Red Skull while Tommy Lee Jones chews up every scene he’s in.

The futuristic past of WWII sparkles on the big screen and nowhere does it look better than on the Omniplex Max screen, the perfect way to watch such a summer blockbuster.

Battles were designed for this screen, America’s famous shield glistens, explosions thunder and plans plummet like nothing you have ever seen before- for action stakes, the Max screen turns things up to 11.

With their special Tuesday Treats offer the Max screen is only £5 per showing and just £3 for ordinary Omniplex screens, heroic value.

The ending is a perfect set up for the new Avengers film, with Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America himself all starring it’s going to be one super show.
