Film of the Week: It's Complicated - at cinemas now

TAKE three likable stars (Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin)and it's not very complicated at all.

The premise of It's Complicated is one that everyone has pondered: Could you get back together with your ex?

A decade ago Baldwin cheated on Streep, and now he sees the carnage he's caused and the life he's missing out on.

Streep, for her part, is about as together as a person can be. She runs a successful business. She's raised angelic children. She looks great, she's warm and funny, her home looks like it should be featured in the pages of a magazine.

And so it's not surprising that Baldwin would take a liking to her.

Ah yes, the complications. Do you stay together with your ex? That's the central complication, hiding it all from the kids, considering whether to begin dating new gents again, enjoying the sheer karmic joy of "cheating" with your ex-husband (who left you for the woman he cheated with).

There is something desperately old-fashioned and romantic about It's Complicated.

In terms of rom-coms, this one ticks all the boxes.
