Flog it! comes to Lissanoure Castle

ON Wednesday, May 19 one of the biggest antiques programmes on television will roll into Northern Ireland bringing with it some well known experts and featuring the much loved presenter, Paul Martin (right).

BBCs Flog It! has teamed up with McAfee Auctions to host a sale featuring antiques and collectibles brought in by the people of Northern Ireland which the County Antrim auction house will sell later in their Ballycastle saleroom.

Gerry McAfee, auctioneer at McAfee Auctions said: "The Flog It! programme is a favourite of the people of Northern Ireland. The format of the show, from a viewer's perspective, allows a glimpse into the past through the story of the owners and the items they plan to sell coupled with the excitement of seeing what it makes at auction.

"For some of the sellers who come along on the day they get to meet the Flog It! experts, hopefully make some cash from something which they have perhaps outgrown or no longer have a use for to put towards a household bill, family holiday or to treat themselves and they get to enjoy the experience of a live auction at our Ballycastle saleroom.

"But whether people come along on the day to sell something or just to find out a bit about their collectibles they are guaranteed a great day out and no doubt a few laughs in a lovely setting."

The date, time and venue for the valuation day is Wednesday, 19 May, 9.30am to 4pm, at Lissanoure Castle in Loughguile, a privately owned estate in a beautiful setting surrounded by lakes and woods.

"The venue is great for this type of event as there are some beautiful grounds to showcase Northern Ireland at its very best and allow, weather permitting, people to enjoy some sunshine. There is a wet weather plan however so if our unpredictable weather should take a turn for the worse there is plenty of room inside the Castle for the experts to do their work," said Gerry.

The antiques experts on the day will be Catherine Southon and Will Axon, stalwarts of the show, who no doubt will be hoping to encounter some well known names which Northern Ireland is known for like Belleek, Waterford Crystal and perhaps even some George Best memorabilia.

Gerry continued: "I will be there to welcome people to the valuation day and to add a little local knowledge which the BBC antiques experts may find useful.

"We have already had a lot of interest from the Northern Ireland public and I would urge anyone bringing something along to get there early as we expect it to be a busy enough day."

The items brought in for sale will be sold at a special McAfee Auctions/Flog It! sale on the 11 June.
