Flute band wants help 
collecting memorabilia

Formed in 1966, the band has a very long and proud history, attending various parades and celebrations throughout Northern Ireland and Scotland.

A spokesperson for the band said: “This is a major achievement for the band, since the bands formation 50 years ago, Craigavon Protestant Boys have always been at the forefront of marching bands across Ulster.

“We are also proud to be the very first band to play the “blood and thunder” style of music which is now world renowned.

“We have already began to make arrangements to celebrate our anniversary. Various events have been planned including a parade, anniversary dinner dance and plans are also underway to write a book to commemorate the bands 50 year existence.

“If anybody has any information, memorabilia or old photographs of the band we would ask that they drop these into Victor Stewart Enterprises, Queen Street, Lurgan.

“We would also announce that our Parade will be held on Saturday 7th May 2016 in Lurgan.

“This year to mark the Anniversary we would invite all ex-members to parade with the band as a “mass band”. To make this possible we would ask that all ex-members interested attend band practice in Mourneview Community Centre from 8.30pm on Monday Evenings.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Lurgan for turning out in their numbers to watch our annual band parade on Saturday 2nd May this year. Despite the poor weather conditions we had a very successful parade and we would like to thank all those who donated to our street collection which raised £733.54.”
