Free Plantation Tour this Saturday

An exploration of the surviving archaeological evidence unearths a story which often differs from common perceptions. An upcoming bus tour, led by a leading archaeologist, will visit a range of key sites in counties Antrim and Londonderry to throw light on this important period in our history.

The tours are part of the Cultural Fusions heritage based project being delivered by Causeway Museum Service and Mid-Antrim Museum Service across the local councils of Coleraine, Larne, Ballymoney, Ballymena, Limavady and Moyle. They are funded under the European Union’s PEACE III Programme managed on behalf of the Special EU Programmes Body by the North East PEACE III Partnership.

The tour will visit a different range of sites. Among the potential venues are Coleraine town centre, Movanagher, Kilrea, Dunluce Castle, Goodlands, Dungiven, Roe Valley and Ballymoney Old Church Graveyard The tour will be an intensive, long day involving a lot of walking so suitable footwear and rain wear (if necessary) should be worn. Bring a pack lunch and flask.

The tour will take place on Saturday, June 23, leaving from Coleraine Town Hall at 9.30am and return around 6.00pm. The tours are free of charge but booking is essential.
