Freya’s book hits the shelves

‘The Dangerous Edge of Things’ is published by the city’s premier publishing house Guildhall Press under their new female-inspired ‘Eve’ imprint.Freya works for BBC Radio Foyle. Her debut was launched last night at Central Library and has been widely hailed, with author Felicity McCall describing Freya as: “One of our most exciting new voices in literary fiction.”

The collection came to fruition thanks to a grant from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the vision of Guildhall Press.

The characters that inhabit Freya’s debut are each trying to make their way in a world in which love or lust has pushed them to the very edge of society – and sometimes beyond. Each must adjust to the new reality – or face the consequences.

The 31-year-old, from Culmore, was educated at Oxford, where she captained the Oxford team which won University Challenge in 2004.

She was also shortlisted for the Orange/Northern Woman Short Story Prize in 2006 and is currently working on her first novel.

“It was fantastic to see so many people at the launch,” Freya says. “There’s a real sense of achievement in seeing my name on a front cover. It’s an amazing feeling.”
