Glarryford hold successful blood donation session

This event was part of their 70th Anniversary Celebrations and was met with a great reception. A total of 98 people attended the five hour event with an outstanding 78 pints of blood being donated of which 74 pints were able to be used to help people here in Northern Ireland.

The club decided that it was important that they raised awareness of just how vital the need for blood donation is in Northern Ireland with an average of 500 patients needing lifesaving blood donations a week.

In order to maintain and ensure an adequate supply of blood to hospitals 300 people need to donate a day and although we did not quite reach a total of 300 pints, we most certainly did our best to help. Unfortunately only 6% of Northern Ireland’s population donate blood regularly and so we were more than pleased that we had a total of 19 first time donors.

Alongside the blood donation session a high tea was provided in the hall to replenish energy levels and for members, past members and potential members to talk about the club and socialise.

Money was collected here to raise money for Meningitis Now and CLIC Sergeant. Club Leader, Peter Alexander states that: “The blood donation session was an undoubted success and I would like to thank everyone that was involved for their time and hard work that they put into making it as such.”
