Great line-up for Milltown Ulster-Scots evening

The annual concert will take place on Saturday October 18 at 7.45pm featuring a wide variety of artists.

The Band will perform along with Glebe and Gloonan Fifes and Lambegs, Blue Belles Scottish Country Dancers, Broughshane and District Pipe Band and Rightly On.

Band member Jimmy Thompson will act as compere for the evening.

As past Northern Ireland Marching Band champions, Milltown will perform a selection of their best known pieces on stage ranging from well-known marches to sacred selections.

Formed in 1961, Milltown has undergone something of a renaissance in recent years with total membership presently approaching 40 accordions and drummers.

Well known for their 4-part playing, Milltown plan to treat the audience to an excellent standard of accordion playing and drumming.

The evening promises to be a great night of music and traditional Ulster-Scots craic.

Admission is £6 which is payable at the door. Be sure not to miss it!

Local lambeg drummers and fifers from 2 neighbouring lodges, Glebe Temperence LOL 231 and Gloonan LOL 504 will also perform. These drumming enthusiasts meet at The Glebe Orange Hall to prepare drums for drumming matches and for the build up to the Twelfth of July celebrations, carrying on the strong drumming and fifing traditions cherished by so many over the years in this area.

Blue Belles Scottish Country Dancers are aged from 7 upwards and are based in Ballymoney. Under the tuition of Elizabeth Brown-Kerr, also a Milltown member, this group meet regularly and perform at many Ulster-Scots events in the North Antrim area.

Broughshane and District Pipe Band were formed in October 2010 in the village of Broughshane as a venture to encourage the young people within the community to come along and learn the art of playing the bagpipes and drums. The Band has performed at various functions within the area and has now progressed onto taking part in competitions organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association in grade 4B. Under leadership of Pipe Major, Colin Torrington and Leading Drummer, Michael Cathcart the band hope to build on their successful first season in competition.

‘Rightly On’ are an exciting Ulster-Scots Folk Group from Magherafelt. They perform regularly across Northern Ireland appearing on television and at concerts. They blend together Scottish, Irish, Bluegrass and Rock for their own unique sound.
