Great nights of live music to choose from...

THE VALENTINE’S Weekend Rhythm & Blues Hop was a big night at Portrush Town Hall last year, and this Saturday’s gig looks like being a repeat of that success!

Tickets are already starting to move fast for the show, which features the Ronnie Greer Almost Big Band, and they’re available from Flowerfield Arts Centre in Portstewart.

This special concert promoted by Coleraine Borough Arts Committee, which sponsorship from Fairley’s House of Wines – those attending will get a free glass of wine on arrival and another at the interval.

The seven-piece band plays everything from Herbie Hancock to Big Joe Turner in a show that features some of the finest musical talent Northern Ireland has to offer.

Bluegrass

BLUEGRASS fans are in for a treat this Thursday (February 10th) at Flowerfield Arts Centre as the venue welcomes one of the finest live bands in the UK – the Southern Tenant Folk Union.

A seven-piece all-acoustic band with banjo, mandolin, fiddle & harmony vocals, the STFU can perform both sides of the genre, either with ‘soul & beauty’ on their murder ballads and laments or tearing it up with their ‘Hootenanny sawdust-kickers’.

The whole package comes tied up with amazing musicianship, heartfelt storytelling, a cappella singing and a special brand of honest and intelligent music.

Their new album, The New Farming Scene, has picked up some rave reviews, with Andy Gill describing it as ‘a bold concept piece’ and awarding four stars in The Indepenent.
