Have an EPIC afternoon at the Verbal Arts Centre

They will all be making an appearance at the Epic Party from 1pm to 4pm in the Verbal Arts Centre tomorrow, Thursday.

This unique party is being held to showcase and celebrate amateur arts and crafts, with local groups putting on special workshops, displays and performances. It is a prelude to the Epic Awards ceremony planned for later that evening to celebrate the city’s designation as UK City of Culture.

Doors open at 1pm with a range of arts and crafts on show for all the family to enjoy. From quilting to pottery making, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the fun and learn new skills. There are also a range of performances including Irish dancing, Japanese drumming and Flamenco. The event is completely free and open to the public.

The Epic Awards, an initiative of Voluntary Arts, showcase the very best of amateur arts and crafts activity in the UK and Ireland. Each year, one winner and runner up from Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland is chosen to win a host of prizes in recognition of the work they have carried out in their local community. This year’s winners will be announced at the Epic Awards ceremony in the Verbal Arts Centre at a special event on Thursday evening. Local group, City of Derry Guitar Festival, run by classical guitarist Sean Woods, is one of seven shortlisted groups in the running to become the 2013 Irish Epic Awards winner.
