Hic! See Ivan Lyttle‘drunk in Coleraine’

TV reporter, Ivan Lyttle, will be treading the boards at Coleraine’s Riverside Theatre this month when he plays a resident bar drunk in Pearse Elliott’s hilarious West Belfast comedy, The Christening.

Described as the world premiere, the Coleraine billing of The Christening will be a one-off performance for the ‘phenomenal’ Mr. Lyttle but he does return to the borough later in the season in The History of the Troubles Accordin to My Da.

The show, which opens at 8pm on Thursday, August 18th, tells the story of two estranged West Belfast brothers who reunite to celebrate the christening of their youngest brother’s son - played by Ciaran Nolan; one of our best comedy actors.

During the subsequent reception in the local pub, no subject is taboo as the “wisdom of the bar” gives rise to often surreal banter about gay bars, pregnancy, the credit crunch, plots in Milltown, feminism, foxes and even Viagra!

However the initial good humour gives way to darker emotions as the night progresses and both brothers struggle to deal with a shared past that has driven them in opposite directions.

The Christening is written by the award-winning West Belfast writer, Pearse Elliott, author of the BBC’s Pulling Moves.

Pearse has forged an impressive reputation writing scripts for international stars such as Robert Carlyle and Gillian Anderson, yet he has always remained true to his Belfast roots and no more so than in this production.
