The fashion show has been organised by the sixth-year charity committee, which was set up earlier this year. The committee is largely comprised of pupils who are completing the community service element of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and aims to build on the tradition of giving that has long been part of life in Ballycastle High School.

Since its inception, the committee has raised money for a wide range of causes including the Heart, Chest and Stroke Foundation and the NSPCC. The Fashion Show will be their most ambitious project so far and they hope to raise a large amount of money for the two extremely worthy causes.

Make-A-Wish is a charity with a single purpose – to grant wishes to children and young people fighting life threatening diseases. Since it was launched in 1986 the charity has granted over 6,400 wishes. They believe that few things can be more important, or more deserving, than giving a seriously ill child the chance to have their wish come true, with all the hope, expectation and happiness that brings. It is estimated that, this year alone, at least 1,200 children will request to have their wish granted and it is hoped that the fashion show can be a small part of making this happen.

Greenlight and Moyle Gateway are about providing training and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities in the Moyle area through recycling, employment and educational based projects. Through these initiatives young people have the opportunity to develop a sense of worth, as well as increasing their self confidence, work and life skills. Their motto is “ability, not disability” and a number of sixth year pupils from Ballycastle High School have gained valuable experience volunteering at the centres. As a result they are very keen to raise funds to assist the Gateway projects in their outstanding work.
