To mark the band’s one hundred and tenth anniversary year, a service of dedication was held to present their new uniforms.

The new uniforms were presented by Tommy Henry and Alexander Taggert to the bandmaster, Brian Caldwell, and the deputy bandmaster, Mervyn Christie. The act of dedication was performed by Mervyn Storey MLA.

Mervyn Storey MLA then addressed the packed hall, speaking on the portion of scripture from Ephesians Chapter 6 verses 10-18 (The whole armour of God), which had been read earlier by band member Nathan McLeod.

After the dedication, tea was served, followed by a social hour with entertainment from The Crimson Star Accordion Orchestra, Robert McAuley (recitations), The Bushside Babes (drum duet), William Christie (history of the band) and James McIlhatton (poetry).

The evening was brought to a close by the Bushside band.

The bandmaster said it had been eleven years since they had last received new uniforms, and he hoped they would encourage members to join the band.

The band committee wishes to thank Mervyn and Christine Storey, Elizabeth White, the ladies for serving the tea, those who gave donations towards band funds and to everyone who took part in making such a memorable evening.

Plans were started about a year ago to obtain new uniforms. In the autumn designs were drawn up, members measured, and the uniforms completed for the beginning of April. He thanked his deputy and the band committee for all their hard work in arranging tonight. He hoped for a good year and that the band will be able to participate in more parades this year than last.
