Hunt launched for arts patrons to finance show

Echo Echo Dance Theatre has appealed for dance lovers to get on board and become patrons of the arts in a bid to stage a very special showcase event later this year.

As part of Echo Echo Festival of Dance and Movement, the organisation is hoping to present the premiere of Londonderry dancer Oona Doherty’s ‘Echo Hunt’ as part of Docnite, a full evening of her work on November 5 and 6, which will include other works, namely Lady Magma, Hope Hunt and Now Shake it Out.

Echo Hunt is a collaboration between choreographer Oona Doherty, film artist Michael Barwise and dance/movement artists Janie Doherty, Kelly Quigley and Zoe Ramsey from the Echo Echo Ensemble.

A modern northern Greek Chorus, to bring Echo Hunt to life the troupe need additional funding to cover modest performers and collaborators fees.

Oona Doherty trained at The Place LCDS, University of Ulster, and Laban obtaining a Masters degree in dance studies. She has been performing, creating and teaching workshops internationally since 2010 and has toured Canada, Jordan, Norway and extensively in Europe.

Her international awards include LA Hollywood Dances with Film Awards 2014, Lafanetsia, Veronika Riz; Cine Danse 2011 Best Film, For Tracy, Trash; Edinburgh Fringe Total Theatre Award 2013, Tourniquet, Abattoir Ferme and the Pick ‘n’ Mix Audience Prize 2009, for Bum, Bodies and Boyfriends, with Ponydance.

Her 2015 collaborations include: Trash Dance Performance Group NL, Emma Martin Dance IE, Catherine Young Dance IE, Shane O’Reilly Rough Magic IE and Dead Centre Theatre Company IE.

Her currently touring choreographies include: Lady Magma at Echoecho Studios, Shake Out at Ravnesdans and Norway, NOW Re-presenting Ireland Dublin Dance Festival 2015, Hope Hunt Dublin Tiger Fringe 2015, ‘Hard to be Soft’ Firkin Crane Cork.

Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company is recognised as one the leading dance companies in Ireland and regularly produces and tours, nationally and internationally, with original new performance work for an ensemble of locally-based dance and movement artists. The company curates Echo Echo Festival of Dance and Movement, the only annual international dance festival in Northern Ireland.
