JJB wants your old trainers!

SPORTSWEAR store JJB is asking its Coleraine customers to bring in their old sports footwear and help charity.

The branch at Hanover Place is taking part in the scheme which invites customers to deposit the footwear in the recycle bin.

Staff members will then issue a £5 voucher for the customer to use on a purchase of any full priced footwear.

“We are working with I:CO, who are the largest recycling company in Europe. They will refurbish and reuse any wearable shoes in developing countries,” said a JJB spokesman.

“Any shoes not suitable for reuse will be broken down and recycled for use in other materials, or used for energy to power their recycling plant.

“We will receive from I:CO a price per kilo of footwear we collect for recycling, and any proceeds we make from this will be donated to our designated charity for this campaign, Whizz Kids, who refit and supply sports wheelchairs to disabled children.

“We want you to tell EVERY customer about this great way to save money and reduce waste. So it’s simple - Old shoes get turned into new stuff, customers get a huge £5 off ANY new full priced shoes at JJB, materials are recycled, Whizz Kids get to help more children in wheelchairs to get more out of sport.”
