JLS up for three Brit Awards

BOYBAND JLS have started 2010 with a bang having picked up three nominations for this year's Brit Awards.

The band, whose singer Aston Merrygold's family is originally from Dunmurry, received nominations for Best Breakthrough Act, Best Group and Best Single.

Since their time on the X Factor, JLS have gone from strength to strength, having had two number one singles and a number one album last year, beating Robbie Williams to the top spot in a titanic chart battle, with their third single 'One Shot' set to be a huge hit when it is released on February 22.

They will now battle it out with some of the biggest names in the music industry for a coveted Brit Award.

The band are up against Doves; Friendly Fires; Kasabian and Muse for Best British Group, whilst they will compete with Florence And The Machine; Friendly Fires; La Roux and Pixie Lott for Best British Breakthrough Act. They are also up against Alesha Dixon; Alexandra Burke; Cheryl Cole; Joe McElderry; La Roux; Lily Allen; Pixie Lott; Taio Cruz and Tinchy Stryder featuring N-Dubz for Best British Single.

Speaking on Twitter, Aston said life was "still surreal", whilst the band said the nominations were "incredible".

The awards, hosted by Peter Kay, will take place in Earls Court, London on Tuesday February 16.
