Johnson’s script translates into award-winning film

A SHORT film scripted by aspiring Dromore screenwriter Johnson Orr has won a prize in Florida’s biggest film festival.

Students Kloee Ciuperger and Kelly Berger, of Florida’s A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, chose to film Johnson’s script – ‘The Child Inside’- for their entry in the Palm Beach International Film Festival’s Student Showcase of films.

The film was competing in two categories - Best Short Film and The Audience Choice Award - the latter open to an international online viewer vote.

Last week Johnson, currently studying Creative Media Production in Film and Television at Belfast Metropolitan College, explained the reason for his interest in the transatlantic competition. Now, the young Dromore man who was named most promising screenwriter at last year’s Coca-Cola Cinemagic Gala Awards ceremony, is celebrating the news that the script he penned translated into an award-winning film.

‘The Child Inside’ was one of five finalists from among an overall entry of 200 and was ultimately voted Third Best Short.

The film earned an award and a prize of $300.

Said Johnson, “In the coming months we hope to enter it into more international film festivals and build on the success that has been achieved at the Palm Beach Film Festival.”
