Knock out ratings for UTV!

Carl Frampton’s IBF World Bantam Weight challenge fight proved a knock out with viewers claiming the top spot as most watched programme in Northern Ireland at the weekend.

In the week leading up to Saturday’s bout, UTV Sports correspondent Ruth Gorman was in El Paso to bring viewers daily updates on Frampton’s every preparation ahead of what would prove a testing and enduring 12 rounds for the Belfast born boxer.

Michael Wilson, Managing Director UTV, said:

“The Frampton fight attracted an average audience of 292,000 and a share of 54%. With a peak audience of 381,000 viewers and share of 69% it meant two thirds of viewers in Northern Ireland were tuned in to UTV to watch the local boxer beat opponent Alejandro Gonzalez Junior.

“El Paso was a long way to travel and for many fans was a journey they couldn’t make so UTV are delighted to have broadcast Saturdays fight live making sure no-one missed out.

“It was a tough fight for Carl but an exciting 12 rounds for viewers and the ratings show that regardless of whether Carl is fighting home or away the appetite is there to support him. We will continue to look for opportunities to bring the world boxing ring to viewers especially to support our home grown talent.

“Congratulations to Carl and all at team Frampton on a another successful win.”
