Ladies’ Night will raise funds for African children

A GIRLS’ night out on May 4 will help to raise funds for projects that will improve the lives of underprivileged children in Tanzania.

Larne-based charity kids4school is to send out teams of volunteers in July, August and October to build a new toilet block at Nzasa Primary Primary School in the East African country.

Team member Jackie Robinson explained: “These primitive village schools do not have electric or water, and the ‘drop toilet’ facilities at this school are particularly inadequate as they are now ‘full’.

“This drastically increases the risk of disease, which is already high, due to the unsanitary conditions. Six thousand children die every day in Africa due to water- and hygiene-related diseases. Building a new toilet block at this school could go a long way to help prevent or reduce the spread of hygiene-related disease and ultimately save lives.”

Jackie is planning a return trip to Tanzania. Last year, she saw for herself the difference that kids4school is making.

“Being so closely involved in the great work that is being done through kids4school has really encouraged me and I intend to go back out to Tanzania in August this year. All team members pay their own expenses to get there, however the more money we can raise before we go, the more projects we can complete while we’re there,” she said.

“Last year’s work trip to Tanzania was a great success. We completed, amongst other projects, 12 classrooms across two schools, as well as providing clothes, toys and sports equipment for the children,” Jackie added.
