The Ballymena Clinic at 109 Broughshane Street now offers the very latest podiatric laser technology for the effective treatment of conditions such as plantar fasciitis, plantar warts, corns, skin regeneration, pain relief, small podiatric surgery, fungal nail infection and thread vein removal.

The Clinic’s Podiatry Manager Martina McGarel, D.Pod.M., MSCh., HCPC.Reg.,pointed out, for example, that traditionally fungal nail infections have been a health problem with limited treatment options and poor results.

Now, using their new clinical laser system, fungal nail infections are treated effectively safely, without side effects, and without the need for oral medication.

“We are the first practice in the island of Ireland to have purchased one of these lasers and the treatment success rate of 90% is quite simply unrivalled. What could only be managed before can now be cured,” Martina
said.

The laser system dissapates a controlled thermal effect that eliminates fungal nail infections effectively. The energy of the light pulses penetrate through the nail, quickly raising the temperature of the fungi and the deepest spores, without damaging surrounding tissue. The treatment is safe, comfortable and fast, allowing a full foot to be covered in 15 minutes.

“We have patients who can’t wear sandals or open toed shoes because they are embarrassed to show their bare feet in any setting but who are coming to us from all over Ireland because they have heard about this amazing machine.”

The new laser system, which arrived at the Ballymena based clinic in January, can also be used to treat problems occurring elsewhere in the body including sports injuries, muscle and ligament or tendon problems and lower back pain.

Martina pointed out that two senior members of The Fitter Feet Clinic received advanced training in its use at the University of Barcelona while other members of the team have been trained through UK based training provided by staff who travelled over specially from Barcelona.

Keen to make the ultra modern, ultra successful system as accessible as possible to as many people as possible, The Fitter Feet Clinic is offering treatments at substantially reduced rates for 2015.

For example, a single treatment for fungal nail, which carries a recommended retail cost of £150, is available for just £40 while a single muscle injury treatment with a recommended cost of £80 will be carried out for only £25.

Potential patients can also undergo a free 10-minute health check with a member of the Clinic staff to assess their health needs and to determine if the laser system would be suitable.
