Latest: Minister outlines cultural funding for the North West

Continuing the City of Culture legacy, DCAL has been awarded £1 million, agreed as part of the in-year October monitoring round, which will be used for cultural and educational programmes aimed at young people.

Minister Carál Ní Chuilín said: “The £1million will enable a cultural programme of activity to enhance the impact and momentum from City of Culture, focusing on community based cultural activity, non-traditional pathways to learning and building capacity across the wider North West including Coleraine, Limavady, Dungiven and Strabane.

“It will enhance DCAL’s role in inspiring young people and providing non-traditional pathways to education and employment.

“This funding will be focussed on young people in the most disadvantaged areas and help promote the value of education, life-long learning and engaging in society to reach their full potential. DCAL officials are working with colleagues in the Department of Education to ensure maximum benefits are achieved.

“The Executive also confirmed that DCAL will receive £2.8million capital funding as part of the October monitoring round.

“This will be used to support the North Coast Sports Village in Coleraine, boxing projects in the North West and strategically aligned capital and equipment projects across the North West. The aim is to enhance the provision of digital and events equipment at community level to assist longer term capacity building and sustainability.”
