Learn the Irish Language in Cushendall

LOCAL people are invited to come along to a new Irish Language course that is being held in Cushendall .

Ballycastle Irish speaker Michel Seanin is hosting the classes which will run for ten weeks and are aimed at beginners.

Michel is keen for those with an interest in learning conversational Irish or those who want to improve their language skills to come along to the Glens Hotel on Tuesday nights.

He said: “I know there are many people who learnt Irish in school who think they have forgotten everything but they would be surprised how much they have retained. The classes would be perfect to refresh their spoken Irish.

“But even those with no knowledge of Irish are welcome to come along and learn the basics. Irish used to widely spoke in the Glens area and this is a great opportunity to learn more about the language and culture of the area.”

The course has been set up by Coiste na nGleann – Cushendall’s Irish language committee which aims to promote Gaelic throughout the area. As well as organising language classes for adults, the committee runs an Irish Language Parent and Toddlers’ Group which runs in The Glens hotel on Thursday mornings from 10am to 12 noon – new members are always welcome.

The Irish classes will run on Tuesday nights from 7.30pm to 9pm in the annexe next to the Glens Hotel (yellow building to the right of the hotel). The cost of the 10 week course is 35 per pupil but you are welcome to come along to individual classes and pay on the night.
