Libraries caelebrate Bookstart Week

THIS year, the successful reading programme Bookstart designed to benefit children aged 0-4, is celebrating its twentieth year.

The programme began in 1992, and since then it has been responsible for 30 million free books being gifted to young children in an attempt to nurture their creativity and give them an advantage of learning from an early age.

Libraries NI now invites parents and carers from all over Northern Ireland to celebrate the twentieth Bookstart by making a pledge - to share 20 books this year.

Making this pledge shows support for Bookstart and encourages people to begin a lasting habit of reading with their children. Pledge cards can be found in all libraries and mobile libraries in Northern Ireland.

National Bookstart week kicks off on Monday June 11 until Friday June 16 and will be celebrated in Banbridge Library on Wednesday June 13 at 10am, 11am and 12noon.
