Limavady Mayor to show off pottery talent

Both celebrate the creativity of the Limavady borough but one is very special indeed as it is new ceramics by current Mayor, Councillor Gerry Mullan.

Gerry has worked in public service for many years and has recently returned to his love of craft. A passionate advocate for the arts, he studied ceramics at Belfast College of Art and Design and Camberwell College of Art and Design in London.

The new work represents Gerry’s return to the form, experimenting with new glazes and influences. He claims that the art of calligraphy has been the greatest single influence in shaping his style as a potter, saying “Calligraphy has also taught me to take account of’ negative’ space in my design work and has increased my ability to create simple, graceful, and elegant forms.”

Aidenville by Gerry Mullan is on display in the Broighter Gallery whilst the annual showcase exhibition Limavady Open Art is exhibited in the Keady Gallery. This exhibition displays the work of any practising visual artist resident in the borough.

Both exhibitions continue until 19 June and admission is free. All are welcome to come along to the exhibitions launch on Thursday 8 May at 7.30pm.
