In fact, the numbers of people performing the push-ups at Drumceatt Square outside the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre were so great that Limavady is to enter the Guiness Book of World Records.

Event coordinator Andy Chapman is delighted with the resul: “Everyone should be so proud of themselves and they have done the town proud too. The past few days have proved that civic pride is well and truly alive in Limavady.”

The total count for the record attempt was 436, a clear lead over the previous record of 352, which was set in Mexico last year. The previous world record was achieved by Laboratorios Silanes S.A. de C.V. (Mexico) at Bosque de Tlalpan Park in Mexico City on October 20, 2012.

Organisers were hoping to get at least 400 people into Drumceatt Square in Limavady in their attempt to topple the record set in Mexico, and are now delighted at the huge numbers who did turn up and achieve that feat. The total count of 436 eclipses the previous record by a massive 84 people.

“Some of the pictures and videos from the event are just incredible,” said Limavady 400 events coordinator Andy Chapman. “A massive well done to everyone who took part... from helpers and adjudicators to the 436 people who completed the attempt.”

The world record was part of the Limavady 400FM project, which saw a live radio feed broadcast from the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre for three days.

The events were part of a project to celebrate the 400 years since the town was granted a charter.
