Lisburn band to release debut EP

LISBURN musician Peter McCauley kicked off a busy summer by taking to the stage at Glastonbury and is following that up with the release of his debut EP later this month.

The former member of well-known Lisburn band Mojo Fury has branched out on his own to form Rams Pocket Radio and the band is proving to be a great success, with the Glastonbury date just one of the exciting things the band are looking forward to in the coming months.

Unfettered personal expression is the focus, and with the timeless works of the 1950’s product designer Dieter Rams in mind; purity, simplicity and longevity are the first concerns.

For his live performance Peter is joined onstage by friends, and between them they create an intense and unmissable musical experience.

Songwriter Peter, who also plays drums and piano is thrilled with the response to his music so far.

“My sound is based around the piano, drums and my vocals,” he explained.

“I try to make music that is straight to the point. If that means that it is complicated then that is the way it is. It’s got a lot of different elements in it.

“I like to keep the element of surprise and to keep challenging myself as a writer but there are things that give it an identity.”

Within a year of being, the band has performed extensively throughout Northern Ireland and more recently the UK and Germany playing a variety of well attended shows and performing with artists such as Darwin Deez, Iain Archer, Duke Special and Tuneyards.

Despite only being together a short time the band have already picked up an award from the Music Quest competition, and were positioned in the exclusive Hotpress ‘Hot for 2010’ list in February.

Rams’ Pocket Radio has gathered a volume of positive reviews and has received airplay both locally and nationally - this includes two Radio 1 NI live sessions and selection for the prestigious BBC 6 Music ‘Introducing’ podcast with Tom Robinson.

The band will be playing Animal Disco in Belfast last this month, as well as a host of dates throughout the summer all over the UK. And Peter is particularly looking forward to his annual appearance at Northern Ireland’s own music festival - Glasgowbury.

“It will be a busy summer,” continued Peter, “but I am really enjoying it.

“I am in the studio at the minute as well and I am recording some more EPs for after this release and then it will be time for the album next year.

“I am hoping after the tour I will get a bit of a break and get some writing done for the album.”
