Local flavour for 'Ladies Day'

THE Gateway Theatre Group are performing Ladies Day by Amanda Whittington in Portadown Town Hall Theatre next Friday and Saturday evening.

Work, love and life are one hard slog for factory-working foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda.

Pearl is leaving to spend more time with her husband - not retiring, as she is keen to point out- and on the spur of the moment she decides to celebrate with an all-girls outing to Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot!

Out go the hairnets and overalls as the girls do themselves up and head for the races.

The Gateway Theatre Group cast thought it would be nice to localise their production and having gained permission from the author, Amanda Whittington, they approached Tayto (NI) in Tandragee to seek permission to set the factory scenes in Tayto.

Not only were the management agreeable to this but they have given the director, Ruth McKinley, and her cast all the practical help possible in the form of crisps, boxes, factory clothes etc.

The play is being staged on Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15, in Portadown Town Hall at 8pm. Tickets are available from Wray's Dry Cleaners in Edward St. and Winnie's Newsagents in Woodhouse St.
