Local shoot forGame of Thrones

The beach is to be closed on Wednesday and Thursday as the production crew record scenes for the fifth series.

The award-winning fantasy series has extensively used the stunning scenery of the Causeway Coast and Glens to represent everything from Winterfell to the King’s Road, The Iron Islands to Stormlands.

Filming has already taken place at Downhill Beach and Mussenden Temple, Ballintoy Harbour, Larrybane, Murlough Bay and Fairhead, Cushendun caves, Glenarm, Cairncastle and Slemish.

Many of the sets already familiar to Game of Thrones viewers, including those here and in Iceland, will again be used for season five. Shooting will also be held in Seville, Spain.

“The Causeway Coast and Glens looked amazing on film and suited Game of Thrones with the rugged, barren, and at times, wild backdrops,” says Coleraine actress Michelle Fairley, who played Lady Catelyn “Coming back to film Game of Thrones was meant to feel like home, and it did.” It’s an area I love and you can never tire of looking at the stunning scenery.”

The fifth series will air in April 2015. Created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss the drama is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin’s fantasy novels, the first of which is titled A Game of Thrones.

The series has won numerous awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for its first four seasons, a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series – Drama, a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in both Long Form and Short Form, and a Peabody Award.
