Well known local couple Cathy and Karl Smith have recorded a CD to raise money for the Royal British Legion, and to mark the forthcoming anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

The talented husband and wife duo will launch the CD at a special night in Coleraine Royal British Legion next Saturday, November 14.

Containing four related tracks, the CD has been completely self funded.

Cathy told The Times: “After watching a programme about charity work for war veterans, we decided that we could raise some funds to help veterans locally, by doing something we both enjoy - singing!”

“Being from Northern Ireland, we felt that the forthcoming Centenary of the Somme would be ideal, as local men from both sides of the community fought and died in the Somme.

“We choose 4 war related tracks - two sombre and two that were a little more upbeat. The CD includes, ‘The green fields of France’, ‘Danny Boy’, ‘Its a long way to Tipperary’ and ‘Pack up your troubles’.

The CD, priced at £9.95, is available either by contacting Cathy or Karl on 07841 350335/07860 438633, or via email [email protected] or [email protected]., or come along to the launch night.
