Lurgan girls to star in Aladdin

MOYRAVERTY Arts and Drama Society will be performing Aladdin this autumn with the junior members of the drama society.

The drama society has over 120 members and it has been very difficult to pick the part of the leading lady Jasmine.

After weeks of rehearsals Clara Devine has been chosen as the leading role. Clara is aged 13 and attends St. Marys JHS. She has performed in various shows with MADS! including; Annie, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan and has participated in MADS! youth music theatre summer scheme and last year was runner up of Craigavon’s Got Talent.

The standard has been very high and because of this they have picked an understudy for the role of the Jasmine. Danagh Creaney from Lurgan and a pupil of Lismore Comprehensive School will perform the part in one or more of the performances.

Show Producer, Kieran Corr said: “Both Clara and Danagh are very talented young girls and will be perfect in the role of Jasmine and I have every confidence with these girls. The show directors for Aladdin will be Daniel May and Emma Watson and I have assurance from them that this will be another five star production from MADS!”

Aladdin will be performed four times in November. The exact dates are still to be decided.

Barry McCrory, spokesperson for MADS! said: “This week is another intense week as auditions are being held to select the key male members of the production including Aladdin and the Genie. The Lurgan Mail will reveal next week which boys will get these two exciting roles."
