Magherafelt singer goes in All Ireland contest

Mid Ulster singing legend Pandy Walshe is due to make his next appearance in Glór Tíre All Ireland competition next Tuesday.

The Magherafelt man is representing County Derry and has already made an appearance on the TG4 channel.Pandy will be hoping to woo the audience with his talents when he has the show to himself on Tuesday, March 7, at 9.30pm. He will be accompanied by Johnny Brady. There is still time to vote for the local man - the lines will remain open until the first live elimination on March 21.“Voting is without doubt crucial and I will do what I can to canvass as much as possible over the coming weeks,” he stressed.Pandy’s image has been appearing on bus shelters and in other public places around the south Derry area urging people to vote for him in Glór Tíre - which translates as “country voice.”He has been a figurehead in local music for many years, having played countless gigs all across Northern Ireland. He has played alongside many stars in the Irish music scene like Nathan Carter, Johnny Brady and Derek Ryan to name but a few.His style of country folk music has kept the country entertained for more than 30 years, and he is still a regular in the local bars of Mid Ulster.Just over a year ago he released the album ‘Ride the Storm’, which received critical acclaim.He is keen to progress his career in country music, especially American country, and winning Glór Tíre would be major boost.There are nine contestants in the competition which is broadcast from Galway Quay.
