Market Place unveils their new line-up

THE Market Place Theatre in Armagh has just released its fabulous new season programme covering all events from September to December 2012.

The programme of events on offer reinforces the venue’s reputation as one of the premier Arts Centres in Ireland and is packed full of events including sensational shows, wonderful workshops and exciting exhibitions for all ages.

Whatever your preference, be it drama, comedy, ballet, music, art, or perhaps learning a new craft or skill, the Market Place Theatre surely has something to interest you.

Drama lovers are in for a real treat with some excellent new offerings. Diverse productions such as ‘A Night In November’ from the pen of the now renowned Marie Jones, Oscar Wilde’s theatrical masterpiece ‘The Importance Of Being Earnest’, the explosive new drama ‘Paisley’, the latest offering from vibrant Icarus Theatre Collective – ‘Romeo & Juliet’, and ‘In The Window’, a foray into drama by comedienne Nuala McKeever.

Those looking for a laugh will have comedy aplenty with returning favourites such as Jake O’Kane and Des Bishop as well as a batch of new additions to The Market Place programme including the fabulous Roy Walker, and Chris Kent & Fred Cooke

The world-renowned Moscow Ballet will bring the most popular of all classical ballets, ‘Swan Lake’ to the stage in a dramatic production of this timeless favourite set to Tchaikovsky’s superb score.

If music is your thing, you won’t be disappointed with the best of classical, folk, traditional, rock and pop on offer. Ireland’s favourite pianist Veronica McSwiney will perform alongside her daughter, leading violinist Aisling O’Dea in September, whilst classical music fans will be spoilt with the RTE Vanbrugh Quartet in December. Showgroup Smackee return to The Market Place with the hugely successful ‘Abba The Show’, whilst the music of The Eagles will be superbly recreated by world-class tribute artists Talon. Or why not try the Jazz Supper or Cajun Bluegrass Clubs, which feature a tantalizing combination of wonderful music and delicious cooking.

And there’s plenty to entertain the children too! ‘Goldilocks And The Three Bears’ is back by huge demand, whilst their annual Christmas spectacular this year will be ‘Sleeping Beauty’, the panto dreams are made of, with fun, frolics and laughter aplenty.

Children can also learn a new skill with a range of fantastic workshops for all ages on offer. Classes in the Autumn season include face painting, jewellery design, film making, jellybean art, Halloween False Faces, and Blood & Gore Make-Up – you’ll just have to check out the website!

Adults can learn a whole host of skills including digital photography; wood turning; jewellery making; salsa; creative writing; fused glass and make-up classes, amongst others.
