Matt revives the music of the 50s

Go odown to the Crescent Arts Centre Belfast on Friday November 20 and rock around the clock with Northern Ireland’s only 1950s/60s rock n roll band, The Soda Popz.

The Soda Popz is a seven piece live band featuring top musicians and vocalists, including Matt Forsythe and Michelle Baird. Their ‘Shake Rattle & Roll!’ show pays tribute to some of the best-loved hits from the 1950’s/60’s as well as giving some modern tunes a rock ‘n’ roll twist! Take a nostalgic trip back to the dance hall days with this action packed, fully costumed, toe tapping, Rock ‘n’ Roll show.

The Soda Popz lead singers are no strangers to the stage. Glenavy’s Matt Forsythe has appeared alongside ‘Lewis’ star Laurence Fox and Harry Potter’s Matthew Lewis on the West End, played a lead role in ‘Cabaret’ in The Mac theatre last year and has just performed in Prime Cuts production of ‘Mydidae’ to rave reviews. Michelle Baird has performed numerous sell out shows as a soloist and with her other acts, the Elluna Music Trio and The Leading Ladies.

Matt commented; “I’m very excited to be doing something completely different in the form of rock ‘n’ roll! Being raised in a home where this type of music was always playing, I couldn’t help but develop a real love for this fabulous era. The music, the fashion and the stories of the dance halls were fascinating. As well as all the best solo classics, Michelle and I perform some great duets including Johnny Cash/June Carter’s ‘Jackson’ and Neil Sedaka’s ‘Breaking up is hard to do.’ Our audiences really get into the show whether it’s coming along in full 50s style or up jiving during our set.”

Featuring the songs of Frankie Valli, Doris Day, Elvis, The Drifters, Connie Francis and much more, this two hour spectacular is guaranteed to get you dancing in the aisles. S
