MEAAP raising awareness of common scams

Would you like the chance to speak to someone who might be able to help?

If so, then you might like to attend one of a number of special information events being facilitated by Mid & East Antrim Agewell Partnership (MEAAP) at venues across the borough in October.

MEAAP is a local inter-agency based partnership aimed at improving the lives of older people aged 60 years and over in the Ballymena, Larne & Carrickfergus areas.

If you are aged 60 or over and living locally, you can register for one of the upcoming events which feature the scam awareness play “You Can’t Cod Maud” which is specifically designed by BEAM Creative Network to showcase the common scams which affect older people in our community.

There will also be information stands from various agencies offering support and transport may be available on request for group bookings.

These special events are being held in Ballymena on Thursday, October 6, in the Victory Praise Community Church, Pennybridge, with registration from 2pm and finishing with afternoon tea at 3.30pm.

The next will be held in Larne on Wednesday, October 19, at Linn Road Community Centre with registration from 10.30am and finishing with brunch at 12noon and also on Wednesday, October 19, in Carrickfergus, Whitehead Presbyterian Church Hall will be the venue at 1.30pm finishing off with afternoon tea at 3pm.

The cost is just £3 per person but booking is essential as places are limited.

You may also be interested to learn that as part of their ongoing Feel Safe & Sound Project, MEAAP are delighted to have secured funds to help you to protect yourself against common scams.

You can contact MEAAP on 028 2565 8604 and ask for MEAAP to arrange a PSNI Crime Prevention Officer visit, who can provide you with tailored advice on keeping yourself safe in your home!

They might also recommend a variety of home security measures including door bars/chains, secure ring devices (suitable for uPVC doors) and solar powered security lights, which MEAAP can currently supply and fit at no cost via their Handyperson Service.

You might also wish to consider having a nuisance telephone call blocking device installed, which MEAAP can currently supply and fit at no cost, simply contact MEAAP on 028 2565 8604.

Since January 2015, 150 Nuisance Call Blocking Devices have been fitted.
