Moving on Music present Breabach

With their foot-stomping reels and their heart warming delivery of songs, there can be no doubt why this young act have been nominated in the 'Best Band' category in the 2011 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, the results of which will be announced at a ceremony compered by Mike Harding on Monday 7 February, just days before Breabach's Ballymoney show.

Breabach's enviable musicianship is coupled with a delightful ability to connect with their audience, a combination that has gained the band international recognition as one of Scotland's leading new acts. Their huge sound is dominated by the twin bagpipes of Calum MacCrimmon and Donal Brown. It is complemented by the stunning fiddle playing of Patsy Reid and the charismatic guitar playing of Ewan Robertson, BBC Scotland's Young Traditional Musician of the Year, whilst recent addition, bassist James Lindsay, adds another element to the quintet's unique sound.

Breabach's second album 'The Desperate Battle of the Birds' was released to great acclaim in 2010. The title of this album is taken from an ancient pibroch (Scotland's oldest form of pipe music) thought to be composed in the 14th or 15th Century. The album displays the band's continuing respect for Scottish tradition, but also showcases their maturity as composers and arrangers. Most notably this album represents the band's development as a singing group with four vocal tracks in total.
