Music events at St Columb’s Cathedral

A most eminent Church musician returns to St Columb’s Cathedral this weekend for a series of musical events.

Dr Martin Neary, LVO FRCO, who is a regular and frequent visitor to the Cathedral, will travel from his home in London to give a recital on the Cathedral’s Wells-Kennedy organ at 7.30pm on Friday, September 19.

Dr Neary will also be offering his expertise at the practices for the boy choristers on Thursday and Friday afternoons and of the full Choir before the services on Sunday. There will also be an organ workshop in the Cathedral on Saturday afternoon from approximately 3pm. Anyone wishing to come along to the workshop should contact the Cathedral on 028 7126 7313.

Dr Neary will be conducting the Choir in the service of Choral Matins on Sunday at 11.00 am and on Sunday evening at 7pm when, in the course of Festal Evensong, new medals for the Choir will be dedicated by the Dean, Dr William Morton, in memory of the late Mr Billy Wright who was a member of the Cathedral Choir for well over sixty years.

The Dean extends a warm welcome and invitation to all who would like to come along to these services, the recital and the workshop. While admission to the recital will be free of charge there will be the opportunity of an entirely voluntary retiring collection to help defray the cost of this special weekend.
