Music fills the air in Scarva

Starting this Sunday, July 5 from 3pm – 4pm with the delightful sounds of Castlewellan Accordion Orchestra will be playing some delightful tunes.

The concert season, runs each Sunday from April until September, and features the finest in local concert bands performing at the magnificent Victorian bandstand on Scarva Green which is renowned for its superb floral displays.

All concerts are organised by the South West Down Bands Association and supported by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

The bands performing in July will start this Sunday.

On Sunday, July 12 Poyntzpass Silver Band will be performing on Sunday, July 19 Banbridge Accordion Orchestra

Then on Sunday July 26 it is Aughnaskeagh Silver Band.

As well as enjoying the marvellous music why not visit the adjoining Scarva Visitor Centre and learn about the unique history of the area and enjoy the adjoining Tearooms, famous for their delicious homemade cakes, teas and coffee.

Take in the natural beauty of the canal and gardens with a stroll or cycle along the Newry Canal Towpath enjoying the abundance of plant and wildlife, which make it a haven for bird lovers, including the resident swans. Nearby Scarva Park with its children’s play area is always a big hit

Scarva Visitor Centre is located on the banks of the Canal adjacent to the original basin, which has been partially excavated and where vast quantities of coal were loaded for use in the local linen industry.
