Musical duo tune up for Island concert

ON Friday evening (February 3) the Island Arts Centre will play host to musical duo Aisling Agnew and Matthew McAllister.

Irish flautist Aisling Agnew and Scottish Guitarist Matthew McAllister are internationally recognised as one of the leading flute and guitar duos. They are renowned for deeply engaging performances, imaginative programming and consummate artistry.

Since giving their first concert together in the Harty Room of Queens University, Belfast, in 2001, they have performed extensively around the world earning the highest admiration from audiences.

Recent performances include two US tours and a tour of Malaysia along with concerts in Italy, Austria, Holland, Peru, Costa Rica, UK and Ireland. The duo recorded their critically acclaimed Debut CD Recital in 2006 with Natural Studio Records, they have also recorded for RTE Lyric FM, as featured on the CD release Hiccup.

As this highly expressive form of chamber music continues to grow in popularity, Aisling and Matthew are at the forefront of its evolution through their insightful transcriptions, inspiring arrangements and the innovative new works they commission.

For their Northern Irish Tour with Moving on Music the concert programme will take the listener on a musical journey around Europe, South America and closer to home. From Argentinian tangos to Bulgarian dances and from Baroque sonatas to newly composed commissions by the duo.

Pieces will include: Carmen Fantasy by Bizet/Borne, La Ballade d’Irina by Sébastien Vachez, Sonata in G Major by Pietro Locatelli, Sivi Grivi by Alan Thomas, Bidla by Veronique Vella, Tangos by Astor Piazzolla and much more.
