Musicals and masterpieces make up fabric of theatre

There is musical comedy madness performed by a barbershop quartet in Barbershopera, on Thursday, May 27. Combining effortless comedy with perfect four-part harmony, the show tells the story of a Catalan matador who inherits his dead father’s barbershop in Shavingham, Norfolk. Expect laughs, tears and stampeding cows in a unique performance which can be described as a cross between farce, surreal comedy and cabaret.

For those who prefer comedy drama, why not spend a day in the life of a small welsh village with the interpretation of Dylan Thomas’s timeless masterpiece, Under Milk Wood on Friday, May 28 and Saturday 29. Performed by Guy Masterson, the intimate dreams and innermost desires of the residents from the village are portrayed to create a magical story and unforgettable image of humanity.

A landmark of 20th Century drama, Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker will amuse, shock and fascinate audiences on Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5.

This tragic comedy is a compelling study of loneliness and power games. Performed by the renowned London Classic Theatre Company who brought The Beauty Queen of Leeanne to Theatre at The Mill earlier this year, the play explores the relationship between a mentally-challenged man, Aston; an ageing down and out, Davies, whom Aston brings home to his attic room; and Aston's younger brother (Mick), who is responsible for the house. A battle of wits begins as the brothers seek to manipulate Davis to their respective ends but everything is not as it seems.
