New seasons at the Waterfront and Ulster Hall

MAGNERS Pear Waterfront Comedy Club is bringing a host of famous comedians to the Waterfront as part of the venue`s new season.

Tim Husbands, Managing Director of Belfast Waterfront and The Ulster Hall, said: "Both venues will be buzzing with the finest live entertainment. The biggest names on the comedy circuit, music stars, classical showpieces, exciting new theatre productions and much more will be enjoyed by audiences from September through to the end of December.

"Once again our bywords for the new season are 'quality' and 'choice.' There is so much to come between now and Christmas that it is impossible to pick out favourites.

"However Robert Plant does stand out as a link between both venues, having played the first live version of Stairway to Heaven with Led Zeppelin at the Ulster Hall and now soon to take centre stage at the Waterfront in his own right with his band, The Band of Joy."

Waterfront highlights

Magners Pear Waterfront Comedy Club is the place to be for today's greatest stand-up stars and the finest new emerging talent. Taking to the stage soon are Al Murray (October 7), Dan Antopolski (November 3), Sean Lock (November 7), Sarah Millican (November19) and Ross Noble (November 25). Dara O Briain (November 9 and 10 ) and John Bishop (November 27 and 28) are already sold out.

Music fans can look forward to Robert Plant and UB40 while Michael Jackson fans can celebrate his music at Man in the Mirror: The Music of Michael Jackson.

Further music highlights include The Stylistics, former Dr Hook front man Dennis Locorriere, The Divine Comedy, Jools Holland and Buddy Holly and the Cricketers.

Loads of fun is guaranteed for younger audiences at Jack and the Beanstalk - the Christmas pantomime.

Exciting new stage productions include Opera della Luna's HMS Pinafore, Bruiser Theatre Company`s Low Pay? Don`t Pay!, Guna Nua/Civic Theatre`s Little Gem and Charles Ross's One Man Lord of the Rings.

Circus of Horrors (November 5) contains some of the wildest, weirdest and greatest performers on earth - strictly for over 18s only.

Ulster Hall highlights

Music for all tastes is Ulster Hall-bound with Belle and Sebastian, Ellie Goulding, Australian heavy rock band, Airbourne, You Me At Six and The Celtic Tenors while Clare Teal joins the RT Concert Orchestra for a special Christmas Concert.

Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen's 'must sees' include Putting On Your Top Hat with the Ulster Orchestra - a special homage to Fred Astaire while there's a special opportunity to hear and play the organ at the Mulholland Grand Organ Workshop.

Fans of sensational stand-up won't want to miss Reginald D Hunter and Colin Murphy. Big time boxing returns to the Ulster Hall in the shape of Carl 'The Jackal' Frampton, while Peter Alliss, "the greatest golf commentator ever," is sure to captivate fans of the game with his stories and reminiscences.
