Nothing hasty about Last Rush

LOCAL band Last Rush are more methodical than their name suggests.

The band have matured slowly over the last four years into an alternative rock outfit who are ready to launch an assault on the Northern Ireland music scene.

The current line-up of Nigel McCoy on vocals, keys and guitar, Keith McCoy on drums and Chris Cunningham on guitar have been together for the last year and a half.

Keith said: “Someone told us we really sound like Keane... in a good way. I don’t think that’s possible!”

“I like to think we sound more like Coldplay and Snow Patrol,” said his twin brother Nigel.

Waringstown boys Nigel and Keith are 29 while Chris, from Moira, is 21. The talented threesome will be playing Magheralin Music Festival this month and have a few gigs lined up in Belfast and further afield over the summer.

Their polished tunes are easy on the ear and will appeal to a wide demographic. The self-titled debut EP is a statement of intent. It’s the sound of a band who have allowed their music to mature, rather than get something commited to disc as quickly as possible.

They went into the studio this week to start work on their debut album.

“Rather than do it all at once we’ll be doing three tracks here and there,” said Nigel. “The intention is to release an album early next year.”

Keith described his brother’s lyrics as “angst ridden life experience”, while Nigel said he used music to escape from the nine to five grind.

Latest addition to the band, guitarist Chris, said they were looking forward to Magheralin Music Festival before stepping up their gigging in between studio visits to perfect their debut album.
