Parents’ Day in Coleraine and Portstewart Academies

As Class Act Drama Academy students prepare to start rehearsals after Easter for their forthcoming theatrical extravaganzas, they showcased some of the new and developing drama skills they have learnt through the Class Act curriculum this term in Flowerfield Arts Centre and Coleraine West Community Centre.

The 4-8 year-old age group from the Academy’s Lower Primary classes took to the stage first. From the start, they demonstrated to their parents how the aims of the Academy to develop confidence, self-esteem and communication skills had certainly worked this term. This was quickly followed by a demonstration of the speech training which clearly emphasised this vital element of the curriculum can be enjoyable and active whilst teaching some very relevant communication skills. The highlight of their performance was the improvised play

The Upper Primary class for the 8 – 11 year-olds displayed their more advanced skills. The show-piece of the day, after demonstrating clear vocal training, was the Fuss Fuss Fuss Rap, a rap version of the Goldilocks story with a modernised ending although they did still manage to live happily ever after.

Lisa Semple, the Principal of the Academy, said, “It is fantastic to see the development of the children over the course of the term and the support of the parents and schools in the local community has been fantastic.”
