COLERAINE’S Riverside Theatre – as well as being NI’s oldest, operating regional venue - is probably producing a wider, and more comprehensive, range of arts and other activities than ever in its 35 years of operation.

And this week is no exception.

On Thursday, Portstewart-based Big Telly Theatre will be presenting its latest play, Melmoth The Wanderer, at 8pm. Penned by writer Nicola McCartney it promises to be a mixture of comedy and quirkiness inspired by such classics as Fawlty Towers and the Saw movies!

This Saturday Sensei Terry Geddis will be directing another exciting showcase-evening of Karate with the Coleraine Zanshin Shotokan Club. If you’ve never watched live Karate experts in action before, now’s your chance. And there’s a special bonus Family Ticket available too.

Moving ahead to next week, Peter Shaffer’s brilliant psychological thriller Equus will be presented by the London Classic Theatre Company on Wednesday and Thursday February 22-23, nightly at 8pm.

This production, for adults only, is preceded each night by a free, pre-show talk delivered by Dr Kevin de Ornellas. Kevin teaches Renaissance Literature at the University of Ulster, having completed his PhD at Queen’s University.

Riverside also wants to alert all aspiring young actors that it will, for the second successive year, be hosting a summer school from July 9-21.

Sunlight Productions - Theatre AS Education - returns to the Riverside Theatre this summer with another innovative youth drama experience, after the outstanding success of 2011 summer school ‘Breaking Walls’.

Sunlight’s Creative Team is inviting young people aged 11-18 to get involved in S.T.E.D.A. this July to develop and learn skills in, team work, characterisation, movement, devising, acting and performance.

Youngsters are invited to work with RADA accredited director Stephen Ralph to explore successfulness and confidence in a creative adventure where you decide what happens and how it happens, showcasing your ideas and talents in a final public performance on the Riverside Theatre’s main stage.

The entire 12 days’ course costs £95 and you can secure a place for yourself with just a £10 deposit, which can be paid over the ‘phone by using your debit or credit card.
