Portrush’s Titanic the Musical nominated for theatre awards

PORTRUSH Music Society is celebrating after its recent production of “Titanic the Musical” was nominated for two awards in the amateur theatre world’s version of the Oscars.

The Society has been recognised by the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) which holds an annual award ceremony to celebrate the best in Irish musical theatre.

Up against 130 musical groups throughout Ireland, Portrush Music Society’s “Titanic the Musical” has been nominated for Best Front of House and Best Musical Director for Richard Campbell (PICTURED RIGHT) .

Speaking about the nominations, Portrush Music Society chairman William Thompson said: “We are absolutely delighted with the AIMS nominations we have received for Titanic.

“This year’s show was a long time in the planning and the entire Society put so much hard work and dedication into presenting a hugely moving show which, not only entertained thousands of theatre-goers from the Triangle and further afield, but paid a fitting and respectful tribute to the real people who lived and died on the Titanic.

“Our Front of House display was incredibly well researched and presented and helped to tell the real stories of the real people our cast portrayed.

“Our Musical Director, Richard Campbell, in his first show as MD, thoroughly deserves his nomination for the hard work and commitment he showed to what is a hugely challenging musical.”

Members of Portrush Music Society will now attend a glittering awards ceremony in the Gleneagles Hotel in Killarney on June 16 when the winners of the awards will be announced.
