Probus Club goes to print in ‘Blue Remembered Hills’

The book contains recollections from Probus members of growing up in the 30s and 40s.

The book came about from a project initiated and overseen by Hugh Gillespie, a recent President of the Club.

Hugh explained how the project started: “A talk by Billy Alford, a Past President of the Club, provided the spark of inspiration. He talked about his memories of childhood and about holidays spent in County Sligo.”

Hugh described how these recollections struck a chord with the rest of the Probus members. “We were encouraged to dig deep in our own memories and to recollect memories of growing up. A lot of interesting anecdotes and childhood experiences were exchanged. It was material which we didn’t want to disappear into thin air,” he added.

The contributions from Probus members were recounted in “Blue Remembered Hills” come from childhoods spent in both rural and urban environments. Many of the recollections in the book are illustrated with original drawings by Hugh Gillespie. For further information please phone 07763786009.
