Project Director’s former company in the spotlight

THE Dublin company headed up by the Project Director of Londonderry’s year as UK City of Culture until his secondment, is today in the spotlight after the production of an internal audit report.

Dermot McLaughlin was seconded from his post as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Temple Bar Cultural Trust (TBCT) to Londonderry in late October, 2012, to direct the programme for the city’s UK City of Culture.

The Sentinel has learned that the Board of TBCT, a company set up in 1991 to regenerate the world famous area of Dublin City Centre, was due to meet this morning to discuss the findings of the audit report carried out by Dublin City Council.

The internal report, obtained by the Sentinel, was requested by the Dublin City Manager to review the practices of TBCT in an audit based on Dublin City Council risk registers and contains almost 60 recommendations based on its findings in relation to the cultural organisation’s financial controls.

The previously unseen audit report which is dated March 8, 2013, is a 50 page document which forensically examines the financial procedures of TBCT and finds a series of flaws both in relation to the handling of money and administrative control in relation to it.
