Quality drama and much more music at the Riverside

The Riverside Theatre has a feast of entertainment coming up in the next few weeks, including the following quality drama event and much more music.

Local celebrity and bandleader Rick Swann will be returning on Saturday, September 17 with his Big Jazz Night.

Following the success and response of ‘Satchmo – The Music of Louis Armstrong”, and his show devoted to Ella Fitzgerald, Rick returns to Coleraine with an all-star line-up to include some of the most prominent names in the UK and Irish jazz scenes.

Coming straight in from recording his debut album ‘Legacy’, Rick celebrates the life and music of the great jazz Greats. There’s everything from swing to hard-hitting bebop and scat and this night is expected to be the freshest, most exciting jazz, blues and bebop show of the autumn,

Meanwhile the fabulous Celtic Soul band is making its second appearance in Riverside at 8pm on Saturday, October 4, with a wonderful tribute to the music and lyrics of the incomparable Van-The-Man.

You’ll hear the big hits like Jackie Wilson Said, Days Like This, and of course Brown Eyed Girl. You’ll also hear Ballerina, Cyprus Avenue, and In the Garden among many others great songs in a packed show.

London-based professional Gerard Logan, making his first appearance in the Riverside will bring a critically-well received production of a new show about Irish dramatist Oscar Wilde – entitledAbout The Boy – at 8pm on Wednesday, October 1.

The show is a dramatic interpretation of “De Profundis”, the letter Oscar Wilde wrote to his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, from his cell in Reading gaol. Two years previously, Wilde had been imprisoned for acts of gross indecency.

Brilliant, loving, witty and passionate, “Wilde Without the Boy” is a glimpse into the humbled, bruised, loving soul of one of the greatest geniuses ever to have lived.
